Buying A Baby Monitor - What To Look For

There is nothing more important in the world than the safety of your child. It is a given that you will worry about your newborn at night, when you are out, even if he/she is at home with a baby sitter or another family member. But there is no need to worry because there is a simple, affordable solution to your problem. Use a baby monitor! This is a wonder device that comes in many different configurations that will ensure you can keep tabs on all the activities of your baby. So what exactly is a baby monitor?

Graco Travel Crib

Basically, a baby monitor is a device that monitors the activities of the baby while you are otherwise occupied. There are audio and audio-visual baby monitors as well as specialized ones that can even sense the body movements of the baby. These baby monitors are available in many brands and models, but it is advisable to buy only the best quality you can afford to ensure accuracy and reliability. There are certain points that you must keep in mind before choosing a baby monitor.

Graco Travel Crib

Look for the following features before buying the baby monitor:

1) There are two types of baby monitors, wireless and plug-in. It is recommended that you buy the wireless one, as this one ensures mobility and freedom to use outside of the house. If you buy the wireless baby monitor, you get more flexibility and you are not stuck to only one location. Also, you can take it out with you in the range specified and monitor the activities of your baby while finishing your other chores.

2) Make sure the size of the baby monitor that you buy is not too large. Get a smaller size so that it can be easily clipped or tied to your belt. The portable baby monitors usually come with belt-clips. Size does not factor in much when the goal is to have a clear picture when buying a baby monitor that includes video. These audio-visual baby monitors are usually more bulky.

3) Instead of getting an audio-only baby monitor, it is better to go for a baby monitor with a camera, so you can actually visualize your baby's activities. These come either black & white or color (usually color costs more). Picture quality varies, especially in low-light conditions. Since your baby is probably going to be sleeping in a darkened room, check that the low-light picture quality is sufficient.

4) Make sure that the microphone that is attached to the camera is ultra sensitive so that you can even hear a pin drop. This is of utmost importance, even more so than the quality of the picture display.

5) Check whether the monitor has other accessories like an alarm clock to remind you of the baby's feeding times.

6) It is important that your baby monitor has a good range so that you will be able to travel a longer distance and yet keep a check on the activities of your baby.

7) Rechargeable batteries are a must. It's best if the baby monitor has a low battery indicator.

8) Buy a baby monitor with multiple channels so you can choose an interference-free channel to transmit on. If your neighbor has a baby monitor, buy a brand that is different from his to ensure that the signals don't get mixed up. Depending on the frequency of other household appliances such as cordless phones and wireless internet routers, you may need to buy a baby monitor that operates in the frequency zone different from your phone or router.

9) Some more expensive models include motion sensors that can detect if the baby has stopped moving for a period of time in order to prevent SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). For the ultimate peace of mind, get a baby monitor with this feature.

9) Last but not least, check the UL (Underwriters Labs) mark before buying. This ensures UL evaluation for safety.

Apart from these features, you should also utilize recommendations on the performance of the baby monitor from published reports and user comments. This is more important than going by the brand name since some manufacturers produce different models that perform better than others in their product line. Do not focus solely on the cost. Keep in mind the quality. Generally, the baby monitors will start from about 30 to 40 dollars and can go up to 150 dollars or more.

Do yourself a favor and buy the best quality baby monitor you can with the most features.

Christmas Sales Graco TotBloc Pack 'N Play with Carry Bag, Bugs Quilt Specifications

The first thing to note about Graco’s pack ‘n play is that it is larger than many playards. This colorful, mesh-sided pen unfolds to a 38" x 38" square, rather than the rectangular shape of most others on the market. While this equates to needing more space, it also means that baby is provided with a bigger (and sturdier) area to play in. The playard’s stability comes from a four-footed metal frame, which-along with the four corner feet-gives it eight points of contact with the ground.

easy portability
The included bag makes storing and carrying easy.
Setup takes one person only minutes, from snapping the frame in place to securing the rigid, padded-top floor (cutely decorated with a fun bug pattern) with the Velcro fasteners. Breaking it down again is just as simple, and there is a convenient nylon storage/carrying bag included for easy portability. Bundled up, the pack ‘n play measures a compact 38 inches long by 10 inches square, but at nearly 24 pounds, it might be heavier than expected.

Baby will appreciate the extra space, the friendly bug motif, being able to see mom and dad through the soft mesh walls, and the four interactive toys-one on each side. There’s a sun with a mirror at its center, teaching baby self-awareness. The ladybug’s body houses a squeak toy. Show them how to beep it to teach ear, eye, and hand coordination. Both the bee and the butterfly have wings that "flap" inside the playpen-one set creates a rattling noise when moved, while the other makes a crinkling sound. Baby will enjoy the different sounds, textures, and stimulations the toys offer, while parents will enjoy not having to pick them up or losing them.

Care for the pack ’n play is easy: use a damp cloth or sponge with household soap to wipe vinyl, plastic, and metal parts; the bag can be machine washed and either line dried or tumbled on low. Should you need to replace the bag or floor pad, both are available for purchase separately.

Introducing Baby Food - When Should You Do It?

During the first year of parenthood, your baby food has been relatively simplistic: you either breastfed or you fed your baby with bottle formula. However, now that your bouncing baby has reached the teething stage, you're starting to feel as though it might be time to slowly introduce solid foods. But when is the right time to start introducing semi-solid and solid baby food into your darling's diet? Is there a recommended period of time, or should the decision be made based upon your own parental instincts?

Graco Travel Crib

There's no end to the conflicting answers awaiting inquiring parents regarding the issue of introducing baby food. It seems as though every nutritional and medical expert has a differing opinion on the matter; yet there are some underlying congruities that can help you to determine when your baby is ready for semi-solid and solid baby food.

Graco Travel Crib

While many health experts claim that you can start your baby on solid foods as soon as four months old, the World Health Organization (WHO), the health committee of the United Nations, recommends that infants shouldn't start eating solid foods until they're six months of age. Other influential health organizations, such as UNICEF and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) have similar recommendations as WHO regarding the issue of the right time to introduce baby food.

So why have doctors and health experts decided on the sixth month marker as the appropriate time to start introducing solid baby food? Simple: once your baby reaches the six month milestone, he will have the necessary physical developments needed to swallow and digest solid food. Before six months, your baby will have a very sensitive gag reflex that can be triggered by solid foods in addition to an overwhelming instinct to continue tongue-thrusting, which makes solid foods extremely difficult to consume. Add to the fact that health experts have only recently unearthed research to support the theory that early feeding can increase the risk of obesity, and you have some very powerful reasons to withhold solid foods until your baby reaches six months in age.

Of course, it's important for each and every parent to make the decision to introduce solid foods based on your baby's needs. To determine if your baby is ready for solid baby food, answer the following questions; if you've answer "yes" to most of the questions, your baby is ready to move on to more solid foods:

· Has your baby become more curious about your own foods? For example, does your baby try to grab food off of your own plate or watch you eagerly as you eat your own dinner? Babies use instinct to move from breast milk to solid food, so watch your baby's behavior carefully for these signs.

· Has your baby become dissatisfied with breast milk or infant formula? Does your baby become hungrier more quickly than usual? If so, your baby's precious tummy needs more substantial food in order to satiate her appetite!

· Does your baby exert more control over his body? For example, can your baby easily hold up his head or turn it away? This is crucial when deciding if your baby is ready for solid baby food, since better head control will help him swallow food easily and refuse food once he becomes too full.

· Does your baby wake up frequently throughout the night, whereas before she would sleep soundly? This can be a good indication that she's ready for more solid foods, since breast milk or baby formula isn't keeping her satiated during the night. Be careful, however, as this can also be symptomatic of your baby's uncomfortable teething process.

So if your bundle of joy is ready for solid baby food, what's an appropriate food that's not only easy to eat, but will be easy on his delicate digestive system as well?

Nutritional and medical researchers recommend that parents start out with single grain carbohydrates, such as baby rice or baby oatmeal. These semi-solid foods won't pose a challenge for babies to swallow, but will still satiate a powerful appetite. Puree fruits and vegetables also can be introduced at this time, since it's a great way to ensure that your baby continues getting the vitamins, minerals and other nutrients that she needs to grow up healthy and strong.

If your baby has trouble with the baby rice or oatmeal, try mixing a tablespoon with breast milk or formula to make a more liquid consistency. Don't forget to use a rubber-encased spoon, as common metal cutlery can irritate your baby's sensitive gums - and since she's likely going through the teething process, this can be quite painful for your darling angel!

Remember, the ultimate decision to move onto solid baby food should be made by you and your baby - so if he's ready for it, then so are you!

Baby Sleeping Equipment - Rock Him to Sleep

Most parents have a problem when they let their babies fall sleep. Babies sometimes aren't tired and often make noise or play some more. So parents who have more chores to do in the morning cope up to letting their baby to sleep. So there are types of equipments that help your baby fall asleep. This also helps you work some of the time while the equipment is the one who will let your baby get to sleep. The equipments are also playthings if babies still want to play and end up as an instrument later on when they fell fast asleep. Here are the equipments that you want to know about.

Graco Travel Crib

The first thing that you need to know is when babies need to sleep alone. So it is your time to buy the baby a crib. Choose a crib that fits the baby at the same time comfortable when you put the baby inside. The baby isn't used to the crib for the first time but when time passes, the baby can get used to sleeping alone on his crib. So buy a crib that perfectly fits him, you want your baby to feel comfortable and sleep soundly as possible.

Graco Travel Crib

The second thing that you need is the crib mobile. Crib mobile helps the baby fall asleep as soon as possible. As they lie down they see something flying over head. This is the time when the baby can start counting and they can fall asleep fast. Or they can try to reach out to it until they tire themselves out.

The third one that you should be buying is the baby's blanket. Babies, when they get tired, tend to hold something before they go to sleep. The blanket is the perfect one that you can give to a baby while he sleeps. Blanket is also useful when the baby likes to play more, and thus they can use the blanket as a substitute. They can nibble it and also they can throw it.

These are the simple sleeping equipment that you should buy for your baby. Babies need the equipment and you also need them to lessen the time to put your baby to sleep and also you can do your work properly. When the baby is fast asleep then it is your time to rest too. When you rest make sure that you watch your baby. Babies sometimes cry in need of something so make sure that you are there to give him what he needs.

Essential Baby Equipment - What You Need For a Happy Baby & Mommy

Baby Equipment can cover a vast variety of areas when it comes to looking after your baby. What is essential can also be another mind field to a new mother and we can often get lost in the look of something or the want for it, rather than actually needing it. That can lead to a lot of wasted money many people can't afford and also may result in forgetting the crucials.

Graco Travel Crib

In all honesty my idea of essential is completely different to most. I never had a crib or a changing station or a nursing chair. In fact my most expensive purchase was reusable diapers.

Graco Travel Crib

I do however consider some items essential for a baby and have a few that many people seem to never own. This is my essential list of baby equipment:

Clothing - Every baby needs clothes and lots of them! I had my fair share of second hand items from eBay and also hand me downs from when my Husband was a little boy, however I was not prepared for how messy my little boy was going to be. My son unfortunately had some acid reflux issues and for the first year of life was constantly throwing up and I had to change him every 5 minutes. Make sure that when you buy clothing you buy a lot of it. You can never have too much! Getting second hand is a great way to go and eBay is a good choice for this. eBay is also great because you can often get very cheap new items too. I bought a lot of new organic items for my son at very cheap prices.

Car seat - A car seat is another essential item. You will need it as soon as baby is born if you have a hospital birth, so this is definitely a piece of equipment you want ready!

Baby sling - I found a baby sling to one of the most essential items I could own. I have used it nearly everyday. My son was very colicky when he was a newborn and for the first 6 months or so and the only thing that really soothed him was taking him for walks in a sling or walking around the house with him in a sling. A sling is also a great way to keep your son close to you for the first 6 months of life (considered the In-Arms phase). Your baby loves being closed to you and you will not spoil him for giving him what he needs.

Muslins/Cloths - In relation to my son's acid reflux, a lot of mop cloths were needed! I was lucky to have lots of spare from buying lots for my son's diapers. Try to get a good back up stock of mops. Babies are inevitably messy little things and this will save you have to do washing everyday. Cloths are also great for mopping up once your baby is grown so don't think this is a wasteful expense - it isn't!

Nursing pads - If you intend on breastfeeding or if not, nursing pads are really quite crucial. Your breasts will leak and being very full to begin with and you will need a continuous supply of pads to help absorb it!

Breast pump - This is on the essential list because it was essential for me the first week. I managed to get Mastitis where your breasts get very full, lumpy and you feel like you have been hit by the flu. I needed a pump to help relief some of the excess milk I was producing. Despite nursing my son, I still had problems. I also found (Even though this is not recommended in the first 6 weeks) that pumping milk and putting in the fridge allowed my Husband to feed our son while I got have a nice 4 hour nap during the day. You need as much as rest as you can so every little helps!

This is my personal list of essential items. It may not be what everyone else's is but other items I had did not get used instantly or as often as the ones mentioned here. Hope it helps.
